BCCI plans academy in B'lore

ROHIT BHAN & BLESSON DANIEL
VADODARA, JUNE 30: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will shortly set up a cricket academy in Bangalore. BCCI secretary JY Lele told The Indian Express that it would be christened the Indian Cricket Board Academy and would be set-up with the assistance of the Sports Authority of India (SAI).

The BCCI will appoint a full time coach with present and past players of repute providing added assistance.

The BCCI secretary said that sports should not be mixed with politics. ``The present problem in the border is political and I don't think cricket should be brought into this. I don't agree that cricketing links with Pakistan should be severed,'' he said in a veiled disagreement with Kapil Dev's statement yesterday.

Sachin to lead: Sachin Tendulkar will lead an Indian XI against a Sri Lankan XI in the one-day limited overs day/night match organised by Punjab Cricket Association for the MP Pandove Benefit on July 10 at Chandigarh.

Former selector and PCA secretary MP Pandove will receive a purseof Rs 20 lakh from the proceeds of the benefit match. India XI (from): Sachin Tendulkar (captain), Ajay Jadeja (vice-captain), Saurav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Robin Singh, Nayan Mongia, Ajit Agarkar, Debasis Mohanty, Venkatesh Prasad, Sadagoppan Ramesh, Amay Khurasia, Nikhil Chopra and Harbhajan Singh.
