Maharashtra play Mumbai in Ranji opener

PUNE, June 30: Mumbai, who had failed to make it to the Super Six round in the Ranji Trophy Leagues 1997-98, will start their campaign for the calendar year 1999-2000 against their arch rivals Maharashtra at their home wicket on November 14 to 18.

The current Ranji Trophy League season for the West Zone was announced at a meeting of its representative associations held at Baroda, today.

Simultaneously, the Talim Shield holders Baroda will clash with Gujarat in Baroda.

Maharashtra will play their next two matches in the home wickets, taking on Saurashtra on December 26-30 and Baroda on January 2-6, 2000. While their last league match is been scheduled against Gujarat in Gujarat on January 9-13, 2000.

Meanwhile, the zonal one-day Deodhar Trophy tournament will be held in the West zone this year with the hosts taking on North Zone at Baroda on January 19, while the holders Central Zone beginning their campaign against East Zone at Rajkot on the same day.

Jaywant Lele, honarary secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chaired the meeting. The other members present at the meeting included Prof. Ratnakar Shetty and Pravin Barve from Mumbai, Vikram Patel and Rajesh Patel from Gujarat, Niranjan Shah and Yogesh Shah from Saurashtra, Anant Mate from Maharashtra and Ramesh Dalvi of Baroda Cricket Association.

MP to play Vidarbha
Nagpur:
Last year's runners-up Madhya Pradesh will open their Central zONE Ranji Trophy campaign against minnows Vidarbha in Nagpur from October 23 to 26, preceded by a one-dayer on October 22. Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan will fight it out on the same dates at Kanpur.

The Central Zone league fixtures for the Ranji Trophy, Cooch Behar Trophy and Vijay Merchant Trophy were finalised at a meeting held at New Delhi recently.

Nagpur will be the venue for Vidarbha's second match against Railways, while Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh will clash at Durg (Madhya Pradesh) from October 31 to November 3 (one-dayer on October 30). Vidarbha will play against Rajasthan at Jodhpur and Uttar Pradesh at Kanpur. Vidarbha will open their Cooch Behar Trophy (under-19) against Railways in Nagpur from October 13 to 15. In the Vijay Merchant Trophy (under-16) tournament, Vidarbha face Rajasthan in Nagpur from December 4 to 6.
