Pune's Vikrant Sane for ITF European circuit

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, June 30: After Kranti Sane earned recognition at the national level in badminton, it's time for her younger brother Vikrant to keep the family name shining.

Vikrant, 14, is among two Indian players selected by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to represent Asia in the European circuit. Devinder Singh Bhusari of Ahmedabad is the other Indian boy. They will be joined by two more players from other countries to form an Asian team. The two Indians will fly to Paris tonight for a six week tour as part of the ITF's junior programme, according to the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA).

Vikrant and Bhusari would play two events each in France and Holland and one in Belgium before returning to India in the second week of August.

Vikrant's selection came after his good show in the South-East Asian tourney at Bangkok early this year. The Vikhe Patil school student also won the Under-14 Adidas Masters recently held at New Delhi and currently holds top spot in the national U-14 ranking.

``Vikrant is the most talented player in his age category,'' says former Davis Cupper Nandan Bal, under whom the Pune boy is been training for almost three years now. The coach adds: ``He has matured way beyond his years and has good anticipation.''

The player who hates losing and does not rest until he wins the next tournament, was helped working on some of his weak points in the past few days. ``Although there was no special training for Vikrant before going on the European tour we have been working on his serves and improving his attack on forehand,'' informs Nandan.
