PUNE, June 30: Omkar Buddhibal Mandal in association with Marathwada Sanskritik Mandal will conduct an Open Fide International ranking chess tournament at Aurangabad from July 15 to 25. The tournament under the auspices of the Aurangabad Chess Association, will be played over 11 days with inauguration on July 14 and the first round on the following day.Over 200 players from all over the country are expected to take part in the tournament. Players like Gokhale brothers Chandrashekhar (Indian Airlines) and Jayant (Bharat Petroleum), Prathamesh Mokal, RB Ramesh (Indian Oil, Chennai), Sharad Tilak, V Hegde (both from Union Bank, Banglore), former under-10 world champion P Harikrishna of Andhra Pradesh and V Konguvel (Tamil Nadu) have confirmed their participation.
A total prize money of Rs 2 lakh will be at stake, with the winner being richer by Rs 55,000, while the runners-up and third-placed players receiving Rs 35,000 and Rs 21,000, respectively. Entries close on July 5.
