NRIs will say a prayer for jawans on the internet

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHENNAI, JULY 1: Hundreds of non-resident Indians (NRIs) will log on to the net at 9 pm (IST) on July 2 to offer their prayers to the heroes of Kargil.

The "prayer hall" where this unique prayer will be said is the bulletin board of dinamani.com. The bulletin board has been buzzing with solidarity messages ever since Kathar Moideen, an NRI, posted the prayer message on June 16.

The messages express support to the jawans and anger at Pakistani ``treachery''. They have been posted by Indians from different regions, follow different religions, speak various languages and live in different parts of the world but are solidly behind our jawans.

Moideen's appeal is simple. "Dear NRI, spare two minutes for the nation," it says. And the response is touching. Arif Ebrahim (ebrahimarif@hotmail.com) responded with, "You said 2 minutes -- we will give our lives for our country. Our jawans will be remembered for the blood they are spilling in order to safeguard our national interest. They are ourheroes, and not Sachin Tendulkar."

Ramachandran Srinivasan (akilchand@netzero.net) hopes all NRIs will heed the prayer call for the sake of, ``our brave soldiers who have dedicated their lives for the nation. They are the true heroes.''

Prakash Balakrishnan (prakash2@aol.com) acknowledges the sacrifices of our jawans, saying, "If you were not there, we can't live safely."

Payal Iyre (paayaliyre@hotmail.com), has an emotionally charged prayer, saluting her brave brothers. The prayer is signed off with a, "your sister".

The prayer hall is also accessible from andhraprabha.com, kannadaprabha.com, cinemaexpress.com and malayalamvarikha.com. All Indians wanting to log in are welcome.
