Properties of Gholap raided

NASHIK: A team of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials raided the properties of former social welfare minister Babanrao Gholap today. The team of 76 ACB personnel from Mumbai, Nashik, Dhule and Jalgaon simultaneously raided Gholap's house in `Shiv Sphurti' building at Vihitgaon, Devlali, his office in the same building, his mother-in-law, Muktabai Banker's house in Vihitgaon, and his agricultural land near Beje village along the Nashik-Trimbak road.

Cricketers wed

BANGALORE: Star cricketers Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble today entered into wedlock at separate functions here. The marriages were conducted in a simple manner and the media and press photographers were kept out of both functions.

Staines' murder

KEONJHAR: Mahanta, one of the 18 persons chargesheeted by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the Graham Staines murder case, was arrested by a special squad of Keonjhar police at Duburi in Jajpur on Wednesday night. Police sources saidMahanta was staying in Mumbai for past two months.

MHADA protest

MUMBAI: About 2,000 employees of the Maharashtra Housing Area and Development Authority (MHADA) on Thursday staged a day-long protest outside their office at Bandra to demand implementation of the Fifth Pay Commission. As work came to a standstill, the executive body meeting of the authority had to accede to the employees' demands.

Rs 2 lakh robbed

MUMBAI: A Kalbadevi resident was robbed of Rs 2.45 lakh in cash at 8.45 pm last night. According to L T Marg police officials, three men armed with knives entered the complainant's house where gold ornaments used to be made and threatened him.

Body found

MUMBAI: A 40-year-old was found murdered and wrapped in an old sofa cover by the Mahim police at the MNC Cross Road number three at 8.40 am today. The police informed that the murder must have occurred in the morning and that the victim's hand were tied behind his back with a wire. Mahim police have registered a caseof murder.
