Seven injured in freak mishap

SURAT, July 1: In a freak mishap, seven people, residing at Ganeshnagar slum of Pandesara area, received burns due to an electric shock while filling water from a tanker, at around 9 am on Thursday morning.

All the victims were later admitted to the New Civil Hospital of the city and while one was still being treated, six were discharged after treatment.

According to a non-cognisable case registered in the Pandesara police station, the tanker owned by a private party was parked at Ganeshnagar slum and people were filling water through it, when one Manoj Duryodhan Swai (25) climbed on top of the vehicle to check the level of water.

He accidentally came in contact with an overhead electric wire and received an electric shock. The current, however, passed through him and six others standing below, and in contact with the water, also received electric shock and burns.
