Patel's society gets more water, alleges Congress

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, July 1: Even as Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria has assured to look into the allegations of the Opposition councillors of giving special treatment by providing water four times in Standing Committee chairman N V Patel's area, the Congress councillors on Thursday came up with new allegation that some deal has been struck between the chairman and B S Trapasia for passing the latter's work for appointment as City Engineer.

Congress councillors, including Opposition leader Kanchanbhai Parmar, told reporters that they see something fishy in the arrangement to give more water supply in a housing society of Sama.

Meanwhile, Patel has refuted the allegations and said the arrangement has been made because the area does not receive water at adequate pressure. Claiming that not to take of five hours their area does not even receive water properly for one hour, Patel has stated that the water from Chhani tank does not reach the remotest area of Sama and the water of Sudamapuri borewell is not fit for drinking.

Patel claimed that even after receiving water from three places, in reality they get potable water supply only for 13 minutes.

Alleging that the Congress councillors have launched a campaign with vested interest, Patel has stated that the Congressmen were trying to take political advantage.

Opposition members called on the Municipal Commissioner to represent the matter.

Meanwhile, the civic sources say that such an arrangement has been made as the area does not receive adequate water supply.

According to a VMC spokesman, the larris have been shifted at other places and instructions have been issued to provision store owners falling within 50 meters to stop the sale of gutka.

It was more than a year ago the VMC had banned the sale of gutka within 50 meters of schools and hospitals but had not enforced it due to reasons best known to it.

Mahendrasinh Raj, Vrajesh Pandit and Varsha Brahmbhatt have been elected joint secretaries, Durlabh Patel office secretary and Virendra Dave as treasurer.
