Army plans recruitment
In the wake of the Kargil situation, the Jamnagar centre of the Army has decided to hold a recruitment camp for soldiers general duty and soldiers technical at Dhangadhra in Surendranagar on July 19 and 20. The age of soldiers for general duty should be between 16 and 21 while the age of soldiers for technical duty should be between 16 and 23. The educational qualifications for general duty soldiers is SSC pass and that for technical soldier is SSC pass with Mathematics, Science and English as subjects. The height of the applicant should not be less than 167 cm, the weight should be 50 kg or more and chest measurement should be 77 to 82 cm. Relaxation in the physical condition would be given to the son of ex-servicemen. The applicants have been told to reach 33 Medium Regiment Parade Ground Station, near Gurudwara in Dhangadra at 6.30 am.

Rawal awarded
Vivekanada Youth Club, Rajkot, presented the Rajkot Ratna award to artist Hasmukhbhai Rawal at a simple ceremony at the artist's residence. The artist has been drama director at Akashwani, Rajkot, since the last many years. He has written many plays and dramas for the All India Radio. He also teaches radio communication at the Journalism Department of Saurashtra University.

Robbery bid
Bhuj:
Sardarsinh Sodha, a retired Army jawan employed as a guard at the Gandhidham Co-operative Bank, and his teenaged daughter Chanduba foiled an armed robbery attempt of the bank by four desperadoes on Wednesday night by raising an alarm. A police patrol van pulled up on hearing the screams onl to see the four trying to flee. Though one robber Subhash Chaudhary was killed in a police shoot out while trying to escape, his three accomplices escaped. All hailed from Uttar Pradesh.
