AHMEDABAD, July 1: An attempt to kidnap the son of an Odhav businessman was foiled after the city police sounded an alert and also conducted checks at exit points in the city.According to Laxmi Narayan, the owner of an ice factory in Singharva, his son was reportedly kidnapped by one of his business partners Samsher Bhalsinh. Narayan said Samsher came to his residence at about 3.45 pm on Thursday afternoon and tried to break open the door. Samsher was armed with a sword and pipes and sticks and forcibly took 25-year-old Chacku alias Suryaprakash in his Maruti car (GJ-1HH-3877), Laxmi Narayan said.
Laxmi informed the Odhav police, who immediately sounded an alert for the boy. ACP R A Kadri also reached the spot and the police traced Chacku in Isanpur.
Odhav Police Inspector N H Joshi said the incident was a fallout of unsettled business dues.
He said Chacku and Laxmi Narayan owed Samsher Rs 25,000. Laxmi, however, was ready to pay only Rs 15,000 and kept asking for more time to pay the remaining amount.
Laxmi's version is that he had promised to pay Rs 15,000 and clear the remaining dues within a week. But Samsher had been making threatening calls to him since the past four days.
Samsher was arrested from his residence in Samratnagar and has told the police that he had not kidnapped Chacku, but had taken him in his car to check the accounts.
