EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, JULY 1: In an unprecedented move, the three Election Commissioners will meet Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on Friday to seek the Government's perception of the situation in Kargil on the prospects for holding the Lok Sabha polls.

This is the first time that the Election Commission is faced with a situation where the country is involved in a war-like conflict.

``The Commission has decided to call on the Prime Minister on July two at 10 am to understand from him the Government's perception of the current prevailing situation,'' a press note issued by the Commission said.

According to officials, the meeting with the Prime Minister has been sought by Chief Election Commissioner M S Gill and two Commissioners G V G Krishnamurty and J M Lyngdoh in view of the extraordinary situation facing the country.

The three EC members will have a separate meeting with the Chief Secretary, the Home Secretary, DGP and the Chief Electoral Officer of Jammu and Kashmir along with senior officials of theHome Ministry on July 5 to discuss the security situation in the state.

In preparedness for the conduct of the polls, the three-member EC has also convened a pre-election discussion with the six national parties on July 3. The six national parties are the BJP, Congress, CPI, CPI (M), Janata Dal and the Bahujan Samaj Party.
