ISLAMABAD, JULY 1: The Pakistan judicial commission probing the betting and match-fixing allegations against some leading national cricketers has expanded its purview to look into such charges levelled against the World Cup squad after the defeat in the final against Australia.The one-man panel headed by Lahore High Court judge, justice Malik Muhammad Qayyum, has summoned batsman Salim Malik and former coach Javed Miandad to appear before it in its next sitting on July 8.
The commission has directed the authorities concerned to provide any information it had on allegations against the World Cup squad as it begins what is considered its final round of hearings.
The commission, which held its first sitting since the World Cup in Lahore yesterday, also directed the Ehtesab (accountability) Bureau to submit on July 8 any record it had on involvement of cricketers in match-fixing at the World Cup.
A police representative informed the commission that four bookies were arrested on charges of illegal bettingduring the World Cup and were being interrogated.
The commission has directed the Lahore superintendent of police to provide complete record of the bookies' involvement in betting and match-fixing, on the next day of hearing.
The commission rejected Miandad's plea that he cannot appear before it till August and directed him and Malik to be present before it on July 8.
