KOCHI, JULY 2: Aviation operations at the Cochin International Airport, Nedumbassery, shifted into top gear with the commencement of domestic traffic from Thursday. All aircraft of Alliance Air and Jet Airways operated from the domestic terminal. However, the day had its own share of troubles in the form of computer breakdowns and procedural delays.
Apart from this the paucity of ground handling equipment of the Air-India also affected flight movement. Adding to the confusion was the shortage of manpower. But, thanks to the ground handling staff, the operations were not delayed for too long.
Terming the confusion as teething problems, an official of the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) said the problems could be sorted out in the coming days.
But according to reliable sources, a concrete solution can be evolved only after the Air-India, which has the exclusive ground handling right at the airport, brings in more equipment.
``There aren't the required number of trolleys for handling thebaggage. They (Air-India) do not even have enough step ladders,'' said an Indian Airlines official.
The worst setback was the computer breakdown. As it was impossible to shift to the manual mode half way through, passengers had to wait till the system was rectified.
