I want probe to end soon, says Gholap

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NASHIK, JULY 2: Controversial former social welfare minister Babanrao Gholap, whose properties were raided by the officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) yesterday, on Friday said that the truth will come out in due course of time.

When contacted, Gholap said that he honestly wanted the legal process (of inquiry) to complete soon, so that the truth behind the allegations against him would be known to the public. He said the raids by the ACB were conducted as per the court's directives and he had no objection to any such process of investigation. "I honestly want the investigations to complete soon, so that the people know the truth," he said.

Gholap's two flats at Shiv Sphurti society, Vihitgaon and Devlali, his farmhouse at Beje along the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar road (where his wife had brought 36 acres of land for Rs 5 lakh in 1996), his mother-in-law Muktabai Bankar's house at Vihitgaon, and his bank locker at Nashik Road-Devlali Merchant's Co-operative Bank, were raided simultaneously by a team of76 ACB personnel on Thursday.

According to unconfirmed reports, the officials found silver idols of gods in the bank locker worth Rs 5,000. The team of officials prepared an inventory of his household articles. Both Gholap and his wife were not at home when the raids took place. His son Yogesh, daughter Deepa, nephew Ravikiran and Kailas witnessed the searches. The caretaker employees at the `Chakrateertha farmhouse' at Beje were questioned by the officials. Two tractors and a bullock cart were found at the farmhouse. The ACB team left for Mumbai after the searches.
