MUMBAI, JULY 2: Indian captain Mohammed Azharuddin on Friday announced that he was donating Rs five lakh to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund for the welfare of the brave soldiers fighting Pakistani intruders at Kargil and their families.In a signed press release from London, where he is recuperating after undergoing a shoulder operation for a rotator cuff tear, Azhar said that he was donating the sum from the earnings of his World Cup fees besides saluting the brave jawans.
``I am anguished and my heart bleeds for the sufferings of the jawans who fight valiantly in Kargil (Kashmir). These are the persons who protect our land and lay down their lives for our country. It is because of them that we have peace here and can carry on with our daily chores unperturbed,'' Azharuddin said in his statement.
``I deeply feel for them and I am donating Rs five lakh from the earnings of my World Cup fees. This is for the welfare of the brave jawans and their families which I am giving to the PrimeMinister's Relief Fund,'' the skipper said.
``I would have loved to visit them personally but I am unable to do so due to a shoulder injury for which I have to take treatment here in London and undergo physiotherapy for the coming two weeks'', the Indian skipper said.
