Teachers root for soldiers' kids

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, July 2: The All India Federation of University Teachers' Associations (AIFUTA) has written to the associations all over the country to consider establishing endowment funds for providing scholarships to children of soldiers involved in the Kargil operations.

In a letter written to the presidents and secretaries of all associations, AIFUTA president Prof P.P. Arya and general secretary Dr Satya P. Gautam have stated: "This is to request that your association may consider establishing an endowment fund at your university or take some other measures to financially contribute towards the families of our armed forces." The letter has been written in the context of the endowment fund created by the Panjab University Teachers' Association (PUTA).

"We as university teachers are a small but significant part of the Indian people. It is our obligation and responsibility to take the initiative to boost the morale of our soldiers by showing that we do care for them and respect their sacrifices for our country," the letter states. The two have also sought the response to the appeal and the action taken by the respective associations.
