NEW DELHI, JULY 3: Karnataka's Rehan Poncha created a new national record while claiming a double but Maharashtra swimmers again dominated the pool bagging five golds on the second and penultimate day of the 16th Sub Junior National Aquatic championship here today.Rehan, an eighth standard student of St Joseph, Bangalore, sank the year-old record of 2:27:5 in 200 metres Individual Medley of Rohan D'Souza also of Karnataka. Rehan, who had won a gold in 200m free style yesterday, clocked 2:24:12 to set up a new record in 200m IM.
Shruti Reddy of Maharashtra claimed gold in girl's 100m backstroke and 50m free style. And Parikshit Shetty chipped in, winning the 50m freestyle in boys section. Shetty, who yesterday won the 100m breast stroke, swam away with 50m freestyle title clocking 27:21 secs foiling Poncha's bid for a hat-trick. Rehan finished second with 27:56 secs while Andhra's M Santosh Reddy earned the silver with a time of 28:82 secs.
