keeper spoils day for Mari Nagar

Express News Service
Mumbai, July 3: The unsporting behaviour of Naresh Tandon, the goalkeeper of Mari Nagar Sports Club, left their first division match against Tata Electric incomplete at the Mahindra Stadium today. With just four minutes play left, Tandon walked out of the ground, and refused to take further part in the match. He called his team-mates out, and when the team did not take the ground within two minutes, table official Noor Shaikh terminated the match, with Tata Electric leading 2-1.

Umpires Hardeep Singh and Douglas Rodrigues have written to the BHA technical committee which will take a final decision on the matter.

The trouble started a minute after Clarence Lobo had scored a second time for Tata Electric, in the 64th, after Keith Fialho had put Mari Nagar ahead in the 16th. Right out Hilal Khan took the ball ahead for Mari Nagar, when a Tata defender blocked him and pushed the ball out of the sideline.

That upset Hilal, who abused the Tata player and threatened to hit him. Hilal was already carrying agreen card, and umpire Hardeep showed him the yellow. Even as Hilal left the field, Naresh began his protest. He told the table to either change the referees or to revert the yellow card.
