The 25-member Committee, formed to revise and fix minimum wages of the labour class, allegedly provides just one representation to both regions and that too in the form of a person who is a nonentity and not associated with the trade union movement or any industrial body. The Committee headed by a legislator from Nashik, Sitaram Gulve, was formed recently by the alliance Government after a gap of nearly two decades. Since 1981, workers engaged in various industries have had no pay hike.

The Committee was thus formed to revise the wage rate and was expected to provide sufficient representation to all trades, industries and regions. The 11 districts of Vidarbha are being represented by just a solitary member, one Rahman Khan, whose official address is `MLA Hostel Canteen, CivilLines'. Leaders of various trade unions say that Khan is neither associated with any trade union nor any trade or industrial body.

Moreover, the Committee allegedly also does not provide any representation to trade and commerce bodies from the region.
