ISLAMABAD, JULY 4: A former chief of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has warned the Nawaz Sharif government of a ``civil war'' if it forced the Mujahideen to withdraw from the Kargil-Drass sector under international pressure. If the Mujahideen (Islamic warriors) are forced to withdraw from Kargil-Drass, they will ``head straight to Islamabad instead of Srinagar and it would lead to a civil war in the country,'' Urdu daily Din quoted former director general of Inter-Services Intelligence General (retd) Hamid Gul as saying.
Gul said he feared the Sharif government would compromise on the Kargil issue under United States pressure. ``There are a lot of doubts and it seems that a conspiracy is being hatched against the nation,'' Gul said, claiming the seeds of the ``conspiracy'' were sown following the recent visit to Pakistan by an American delegation led by the commander-in-chief of the US Central Command, General Anthony Zinni.
The delegation had met Sharif and Army chief General PervezMusharraf during its two-day stay in Islamabad.
