CHANDIGARH, JULY 4: With the result of supplementary examination of BHMS students scheduled to be out this week, a decision is likely to be taken on the "carry-on" system in the Homeopathy College, Sector 26, for those who clear the examination.According to students of the college, despite one set of regulations provided by Central Council of Homeopathy, the students pursuing BHMS in Homeopathic colleges of Punjab "are being victimised due to misinterpretation of regulations for scheme of examinations for the degree of Homeopathy."
According to the rules, a candidate is not allowed to be admitted to the second BHMS examination unless he has passed the first BHMS examination at least one year previously. The candidate who fails to pass the subject is allowed to appear in a supplementary examination after six weeks of the publication of result.
The students of the college contend that if a literal meaning of the rules is taken then it is not possible for a candidate utilising the supplementary chance to clear the first BHMS examination one year previously - for a gap of six weeks will remain. This will result in students wasting six months at least. In a memorandum submitted to the Punjab Chief Minister few weeks ago the unit of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad stated that the phrase "at least one year previously" should be outright excluded as in regulations for Nehru Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Delhi, to avoid misinterpretation that is against the interests of students.
Dr K.K.Dhiman, Principal of Homeopathy College, when contacted said, "A meeting will soon take place to decide what would be done with students who clear the supplementary examination this week. "Efforts are on to merge the students who clear the exam in first attempt with the previous badge."
