Chowk named after Kargil martyrs
The Piplod Traffic Circle will be called `Kargil Shahid Chowk' henceforth as a mark of respect towards the soldiers who have laid down their lives fighting Pakistani intruders. The Surat Municipal Corporation has planned to hold a naming function at Piplod at 10 am on July 6.

Sharif effigy burnt
Maachhiwaad Yuvak Mandal and city Youth Congress volunteers burnt an effigy of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at Makkai Pool on Sunday afternoon. A group of about 200 people, including city Youth Congress president Ashok Pimple, were present for the effigy burning, held to condemn the active participation of Pakistani troops in the Kashmir intrusion.

Bhatt's warning
Food and Civil Supplies Minister Ashok Bhatt, while warning traders against adulteration of edible oil and other food items, asked them to ensure that common people got these supplies at fair prices. He was addressing a meeting attended by city traders, Collector Sangeeta Singh and other officials at the collectorate on Sunday. The minister was on a day-long visit to the district.

Liquor seized
The prohibition police, in a release issued here, stated that IMFL Rs 41,000 had been seized in a raid on Saturday evening. The stock was seized along with a Maruti van, whose driver, one Kallu, abandoned the vehicle and escaped. He has been declared an absconder.

CBSE results
Lions English School, Silvassa, has secured 100 per cent result in the March 1999 CBSE examinations. Anita Deshpande topped the school with 86.2 per cent in the Standard X examination, while Khevna Pujari of Standard XII scored 75.2 per cent in the Science stream.
