Spurned lover and his family drive college girl to suicide

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, JULY 4: A teenaged college student in Baramati ended her life yesterday allegedly because she was being harassed by a spurned lover and his relatives.

Seventeen-year-old Sheetal Tanaji Kadam committed suicide by hanging herself at her uncle Kalyan K Jadhav's residence at Jalgaon Supe village near Baramati. Kalyan has lodged a complaint holding Malan Baburao Gaikwad and her sons, Dattatray and Anil, responsible for Sheetal's death.

Police said Sheetal, who studied in XI standard, stayed at a hostel in Baramati. The Gaikwad family was angry with her allegedly because she had turned down Dattatray's marriage proposal.

Kalyan Jadhav stated in his complaint that Dattatray and his family were blackmailing Sheetal for several days. The Gaikwad family used to threaten Sheetal that ``they would defame her if she did not get married with Dattatray,'' the complaint said.
