PUNE, JULY 4: The work of widening Karve Road has gathered momentum as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has acquired 26 properties along the stretch of the busy road between Nal Stop and SNDT College during the last ten days. The civic body has also acquired a property belonging to an industrialist, opposite SNDT college where a flyover for pedestrians has been proposed.
Acquisition process of three properties in the vicinity which are in possession of the SNDT College, Pune Telecoms and State Bank of India is still incomplete due to some technical difficulties, according to the civic officials.
The PMC general body had approved a proposal to widen the present 80 feet road to 100 feet about eight months back. The decision was taken in view of the frequent traffic congestion on the road which links Kothrud and Paud Road areas with Deccan Gymkhana. Financial provision of Rs 25 lakh has been made in the current budget for the purpose. The civic administration started serving acquisition notices to the owners of 29 properties along the stretch of road between Nal Stop and SNDT as per the provisions under sections 210 and 213 of the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation's Act on June 22.
Civic officials said the PMC would acquire properties along the stretch of the road from Nal Stop to Aditya Hotel Chowk in the next stage. The process to acquire properties along the stretch of the road between Aditya Hotel Chowk and Khandojibaba Chowk will start after that.
