Restraint on LoC silly, unpatriotic -- Swamy

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, JULY 4: Janata Party president Subramaniam Swamy yesterday demanded that the Vajpayee government should cross `Line of Control' (LoC) immediately to destroy the supply routes to the infiltrators in the national interests.

Addressing a press conference here, Swamy said international laws were in favour of India since United Nations had passed two separate resolutions against terrorism. Blaming Vajpayee government for the high casualty rate by Indian army in Kargil operation, Swamy said the government's ``silly restraint'' and ``unpatriotic'' decision not to cross the LoC is the direct reason for casualties.

Swamy said the present international censure of Pakistan for crossing LOC in Kashmir was not good from the Indian point of view as international opinion had began to put a view that the present LOC be the permanent border of India and Pakistan.

"No patriotic Indian can accept this implied partition of Kashmir," Swamy said, adding that the LoC was the ceasefire line and India could not respect it if Pakistan open fire.

Answering a question on the possible alliance of Congress with Jayalalitha, Swamy said there were certain of differences between the two parties on seat sharing. He expressed confidence that the differences between the two parties would be sorted out.

Swamy also refused to make any comment on possible effect on Congress prospects because of Sharad Pawar's new party. He said he did not agree with the points raised by Pawar but his expulsion from Congress was unfortunate. Swamy blamed Arjun Singh for forming alternate government after the fall of Vajpayee government. Describing Arjun Singh as ``a mischievous and selfish politician,'' Swamy said the Congress had no future if leaders like Arjun Singh continue to decide party strategy.

Swamy said the leader, who will have support of more than 20 Lok Sabha members in the next Lok Sabha, would play crucial role in formation of government.
