HOLENARSIPURA, July 4: Karnataka Chief Minister J H Patel today charged the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party with ``desperately'' trying to break the Janata Dal in Karnataka and asserted that such attempts would not succeed.Addressing a meeting here, Patel alleged that the two parties were spreading ``false propaganda'' and urged people not to be carried away by such a campaign.
The chief minister said attempts were being made by several leaders to create a rift between him and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda and Deputy Chief Minister and state Janata Dal president Siddaramaiah.
``No force on earth can create a wedge between me and Deve Gowda,'' Patel said. ``Attempts to destabilise the Janata Dal in Karnataka will not succeed.''
``My association with Deve Gowda dates back to three decades. No one can break the solidarity,'' he added.
Deve Gowda and Siddaramaiah also attended the function, to mark the inauguration of the Rs 1.38 crore new railway station and the expanded 100-bedgovernment hospital.
Earlier, addressing a function at Chennarayapattana in Hassan district, Patel said the party should maintain its identity and sustain itself.
