Frustrating day for Jeev Milkha

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, July 4: Indian pro Jeev Milkha Singh's ambition of getting a direct entry to the prestigious British Open suffered a major blow when he returned a four-over 75 to drop down to the 24th position from overnight third at the Murphy's Irish Open golf tournament at Dublin, Ireland.Nothing went right for Jeev Milkha Singh on the third day at the Glens Druid Golf Course as he shot just one birdie, on the par-4 sixth. He was saddled with three bogies on sixth and a double bogey on the par-4 7th hole under squally conditions.

His poor third round yesterday took his aggregate to three-under 210 for 54 holes.

On a day when the 27-year-old was wildly erratic off the tee - he found just four fairways - and his putting also deserted him and he required 30 putts to complete the round. Leading was Argentinian Angel Cabrera, who fired his second successive round of five-under 66 to go 11-under for the tournament.

Simi in 67th position

NEW DELHI: Simi Mehra, the lone Indian woman pro in the eliteladies Professional Golfer's Association (LPGA) tour, shot a five-over 76 in the third-round to plummet down to 67th place in the $ 900,000 Jaime Farr Kroger Classic being played at the Highland Meadows course in Sylvania, Ohio.Simi Mehra, who made her only second cut of what is proving to be frustrating season, was tied at the 45th place after second-round. She is now five-over 218 after 54 holes.

Leading the tournament were defending champion Se Ri Pak of South Korea, and Australia's Shani Waugh and Peru's Jenny Lidback at eight-under 205.
