UBI pip Nobody

MUMBAI, JULY 4: Union Bank of India scored a narrow 2-1 victory over Nobody in the BHA Senior Division hockey league encounter, sponsored by Punjab National Bank, at the Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate, today. UBI, who are in the title hunt, started off aggressively and their efforts bore fruit when veteran full-back MG Bhosle converted a penalty-corner early in the eighth minute.

after the break, Nobody tried hard for the equaliser and their opponents kept on missing chances. Nobody's prolific goal-getter Llewlyn Charles scored the equaliser in the 60th minute with a field goal. Centre-forward Rajesh Matkari settled Nobody's hash when he scored the match-winner for the bankmen in the 67th minute.

Earlier in the First Division tie, Catholic Gymkhana outplayed Bombay Republicans B 5-0 after leading 4-0 at the interval. The highlight of the game was three goals by Valerian Picardo. Ryan Alphonso and Savio Gonsalves were the other goal-getters.

There is no match tomorrow.
