NAGPUR, JULY 5: The Sitabuldi Police have arrested one more person in connection with the sensational Yadavrao Kohachade bogus marksheet-degree scam; this time the superintendent of the Confidential Godown of the Nagpur University, Vitthal Hedau.Hedau, who is in-charge of the godown that houses the answersheets of all examinations conducted by the University, has been arrested in connection with the Assem Khosla case, pertaining to the replacement of original answersheets of the First MBBS examination held in Winter 1998.
Khosla, a student of a private medical institute from the city, is reported to be involved in changing his original answersheet and is absconding at present. PSI Nerlekar, who is heading a special team investigating the case, arrested Godown Superintendent Hedau on Sunday, as he is responsible for the safety of answersheets kept in his custody.
Police officials said that it was impossible for an outsider to replace the answersheets in the godown without assistance from godownemployees and interrogation of Hedau is likely to lead them to the real culprits who replaced the answersheets of Khosla.
During the preliminary interrogation however, Hedau allegedly expressed his innocence and said that in a huge department which houses more than two to three lakh answersheets, it was impossible for him to keep a tab on each and every answersheet.
Hedau would be produced before court today and the Sitabuldi police are likely to demand his PCR to interrogate him further.
The Sitabuldi Police have reportedly directed the Nagpur University not to destroy the answersheets of Winter 1998 examination before they are scrutinised by them.
