AP to release Krishna waters to Chennai soon

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
CHENNAI, JULY 5: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has assured the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi that the Krishna river water would be released from the Kandaleru reservoir to Chennai in a day or two.

Disclosing this, TN public works minister Durai Murugan told reporters here today that the assurance was given when Karunanidhi contacted Naidu over telephone last night.

He said the AP irrigation minister Thummal Nageswara Rao, whom he had contacted last night, told him that there would not be any problem in releasing water from the reservoir. The AP minister told him that the Congress volunteers in Nellore district had been demonstrating against the release of water only with an eye on the coming Lok Sabha elections, Durai Murugan said.

He said he would be accompanying Karunanidhi to New Delhi tomorrow. During their visit, they would be having discussions with the chief ministers of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala on Cauvery, Telegu Ganga and Mullai Periyar issuesrespectively.

The minister said he had written a letter to his Kerala counterpart requesting him to fix a date for a ministerial level meeting to solve the Mullai Periyar issue.
