Bomb scare at HC

The Bombay High Court faced a bomb scare today with police sniffer dogs doing the rounds of the court rooms and the chambers of the judges. However nothing incriminating was found.

According to official sources, the Azad Maidan police station this morning got an anonymous phone call claiming that a bomb had been kept at the high court premises. Following which the police came with sniffer dogs to check out the veracity of the call. It however proved to be a hoax call. Except for about a 15 minute disturbance, the courts functioned as usual.

Hawkers pelt stones, 13 hurt

Ten police personnel and three hawkers were injured when the vendors resorted to stone-throwing during a drive to remove unauthorised stalls from the railway bridge at Dadar station this morning.

Following many complaints by commuters that hawkers blocked free movement along the bridge and created a nuisance, the railway police and municipal authorities reached the bridge at around 10.30 am. Even as thepolice asked the hawkers to move away, they were pelted with stones.

Later, 14 hawkers were arrested and cases have been registered at Bhoiwada police station.

Three robbers arrested

Three members of the Katta Shekhar gang were arrested at Sion Circle this morning, according to the police.

The trio were identified as Vishnu Ganagaram Pilankar alias Chikna, Suresh Shambhu alias Vinay and Bhaskar Dombayya Shetty. Police said the accused were involved in several armed robberies and dacoities in various parts of the city.

BMC launches its website

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) launched its website on Thursday to cut down on the long wait citizens need to put up with to meet the civic officers.

People can now e-mail their complaints relating to birth and death certificates, shops and establishment forms, building and factory forms.
