Godmother Shabana attempts to soothe ruffled feathers

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
RAJKOT, JULY 6: Actress Shabana Azmi, who starred in the film Godmother directed by Vinay Shukla, was in Rajkot on Monday to meet Santokben Jadeja. Shabana was accompanied by her husband Javed Akhtar and director Vinay Shukla.

Though the visit is being kept secret, Shukla and Shabana Azmi have apparently come to hold talks with Santokben Jadeja who has filed a case against the film.

Godmother is based on crime and violence in Porbandar, with certain parts of the film portraying a woman who turns to violence and crime to avenge her husband's death, similar to the life of Santokben Jadeja.

Azmi plays the lead role of Rambhiben in the film. However, Santokben Jadeja took strong objection to certain parts of the film which, she claimed, depicted her in bad light.

Jadeja had filed a case against the film's release in a Rajkot court. She demanded that certain parts, which were objectionable to her, be deleted. The court had ordered some parts to be cut while allowing the others. However, thiswas not acceptable to both the parties and they moved High Court.

Santokben Jadeja's lawyers were tight-lipped about the meeting when The Indian Express contacted them.
