CALCUTTA, JULY 6: The first passenger bus from Dhaka, that will run for the Calcutta-Dhaka bus service which was inaugurated on June 19, was received on Monday in the city in what turned out to be a low-key and totally lack-lustre affair. Two buses, one belonging to the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation owned by the government of that country and the other belonging to private-owned company, Shyamali, arrived at Karunamoyee International Bus Terminus in the evening. The buses, which were flagged off on Sunday morning at Kamalapur bus terminus in Dhaka, carried 77 passengers in all, 39 of whom were ordinary passengers and the rest officials, journalists etc.
The government reception organised at the terminus in Calcutta saw not one minister. However, this did not seem to bother the passengers, who said they were overwhelmed by the reception they got both from the common people and officials. They, however, regretted the condition of the roads on this side of the border.
