This bloodshed is uncalled for -- Anshuman Gaekwad

Whatever may be the reasons for India and Pakistan to come into conflict with each other, such a situation is not good for either country. There is no doubt that the armed forces are doing a commendable job in guarding the Indian territory and driving away the troops and infiltrators but this bloodshed is uncalled for.

One has to give full credit to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee for making a gesture of friendship in February this year by going to Lahore on the special bus. However, the efforts did not click as Pakistan remains adamant on the Kashmir issue. In the past too, India has tried to solve the problem through a dialogue but the efforts have not paid any dividends.

In war-like situations, the general public is totally helpless. What more can it do than giving moral support to the jawans? Collecting funds for the family members of jawans who have lost their lives is fine but that cannot be a substitute to a solution as the toll is mounting and more and more families are getting affected.Breaking something is very easy but making up is very difficult. It is very easy to start a war but very difficult to end it.

(As told to Nandini Oza)
