Tantrik held for cheating
The Makarpura police on Monday arrested a `tantrik' Kantibhai Joshi, resident of Jagannathpura Society, who claimed to solve problems of unemployment, marriages and domestic disputes. According to police, one Bhupesh Jivanbhai Brahmbhatt, an electrician, who lives in Narayan Nagar Society in Gorwa area, approached the tantrik for helping him in getting a job after reading advertisements in vernacular newspapers. The tantrik allegedly asked for Rs. 1,300 for performing certain rituals to remove hurdles in the way of his getting a job. Brahmbhatt allegedly paid an advance of Rs. 300 and promised to pay the rest after his work was done. However, he claimed his money back when he did not get the job despite the performance of rituals by the tantrik. A case of cheating has been registered against the tantrik.

Suicide bids
Two cases of attempt to suicide were registered on Tuesday. According to police, a case of attempted suicide was registered against Vinodbhai Shanabhai Tadvi, a resident of Chimanlal-ni-Chali, who tried to end his life after a dispute with his wife over a trivial issue. Another suicide case was registered against Niraliben Sureshbhai Pathak, who made a bid to end her life by consuming insecticide apprehending action against her by her teachers because she failed to solve some mathematics problems.

Vehicles stolen
Two vehicles were reported to have been stolen from the city during the last 24 hours. According to police, a tanker (GRR 5917) was lifted from outside the Deluxe Society in Fatehgunj area on Monday afternoon while a Bajaj Super scooter (GJ 7 S 3422) was stolen from the bed of the river Mahisagar under the Chhani Police Station.

Chemical theft
One Avtar Singh from Guwahati, who was driving a truck full of chemicals and batteries worth about Rs five lakh sold off the goods in Pavijetpur taluka of the district and is absconding, the Vadodara rural police said. A complaint in this context was filed by truck owner Satya Kumar, who alleged that the theft was detected after the empty truck was found abandoned in Bodeli on Tuesday. Investigations are on.
