NEW DELHI, JULY 6: The Election Commission today held discussions with officials of the Jammu and Kashmir government on their poll preparedness but did not categorically say if the Lok Sabha elections in the state would be held along with the rest of the country or not.Asked by reporters after the meeting if the polls in the state would be held along with the rest of the country, Chief Election Commissioner M.S.Gill chose to be vague, saying the elections were meant for the entire country of which Jammu and Kashmir was a part. He said the state government was doing its best to help the Commission hold elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The other two commissioners, G.V.G.Krishnamurty and J.M.Lyngdoh, also attended the meeting, the last one in the run-up to the formulation of the election schedule. State Chief Secretary Ashok Jaitley, Director General of Police Gurbachan Jagat, Chief Electoral Officer S.C.Bhave and representatives from the Union Home Ministry also participated in the meeting.
According to theCommission, the meeting discussed all aspects of the preparations required in the state during the elections. Despite the present situation, the administration was closely co-operating with the Commission in making the necessary arrangements, it said.
