Anand drew twice against Fritz before achieving victory. Then, playing black, he managed to mate Fritz in 46 moves. A draw in the fourth game ensured victory.
Harikrishna wins
KOZHIKODE: Fourteen-year-old Harikrishna, a ninth standard student from Andhra Pradesh, won the seventh Suseela Devi Thipsay Memorial Fide-rating chess tournament today.
Harikrishna secured 8.5 points out of the total nine, defeating senior players including IM R B Ramesh, P Mithrakant and K Murugan.

Award for Sunny
NAGPUR: Sunil Gavaskar would receive the prestigious Maharashtra Bhushan to be awarded by the state government here on July 12.
The earlier recipients of the award were noted Marathi literary figure PLDeshpande and Lata Mangeshkar.
Skating camps
CHANDIGARH: The Roller Skating Federation of India will invite renowned foreign coaches for coaching camps, clinics and seminars to prepare an Indian team for the seventh Asian Roller Skating Championship to be held in China in October, according to federation president advisor Inder Pal Singh said.
He said that coaching camps and clinics would be organised from July 20 to August 8 at Visakhapatanam (speed skating), Ahmedabad/Mumbai (artistic skating) and Chandigarh (roller hockey).
The 1997-98 Nationals medallists are invited to the camps. Coaches, referees and judges would also participate in the camps. The skaters have been directed to report to the respective venues on July 19.
The RSFI will hold selection trials from August 8 to 10. The Indian skaters had won 22 bronze medals in Asian Championship held in Korea in 1997.
