Admitting that the raids were a fallout of the newspaper report, City Police Commissioner, J Mahapatra said that a number of people had also complained about the illegal activities.

The team, comprising six inspectors drawn from various police stations and led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohan Jha, raided the dens in the wee hours, when they were about to close.

According to Jha, the first raid was conducted near Dinesh mills, Akota, where the main operative Imtiaz along with 50 others were arrested. The team recovered more than Rs 5000 from the den.

The second raid was carried out by another team, led by two city PIs, at a gambling den located on the railway property behind swimming pool at Pratapnagar. ``In this raid eight people were arrested and Rs 6800 recovered,'' Jha said.

The third team, which raided a den near Alkapuri, arrested seven people and recovered Rs 3,000. All accused have been arrested under the gambling act.
