Nabha temple, school row ends, trust set up

Yogindra Mohan
NABHA, JULY 9: The Punjab Public School-Durga Shiva Temple Managing Committee row has virtually ended with the All India Sant Samiti deciding to constitute an 11- member trust to manage the affairs of the temple. The managing committee of the temple will not take any decisions once the trust is constituted.

This was announced by Sant Parmanand, leader of the Vishav Hindu Parishad, on the conclusion of the two-day sant sammelan organised in the playground around the temple. The boundary wall around the playground, pulled down by an irate mob on April 3, would be rebuilt soon, sant Parmanand announced. The Sant Samiti had no dispute with the school and did not want to create any hurdles in its smooth functioning, he said and added that it would not indulge in any unlawful activities.

The deliberations were attended, among others, by local legislator Raja Narinder Singh, who is also Minister of State for Public Health and a member of the board of governors of the Punjab Public School. His approval ofthe decision to set up the trust implies that it has the consent of the school management.

The trust will include apart from the sants, the local sub-divisional magistrate, deputy superintendent of police, headmaster of the Punjab Public School, four such members of the public who are non-political but prominent citizens, and two members of the temple managing committee.

Jagatguru Shankaracharaya Jyotipeetha, Swami Madha Ashram, Swami Gyananand, President of the All India Sant Samiti, Swami Devendranand, president of the Haryana unit of the Samiti, Brahm Vishwatma Bawara Maharaj, and Swami Sahidananad were among others who participated in the meet.
