This decision was taken at a meeting held at the secretariat on Thursday, chaired by Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro.

It may be recalled that the Ministry of Human Rescurces Development, Government of India, had revised the pay scales of teachers in university and colleges in July 1998 and a accordingly the Cabinet of Goa had decided that instead of giving higher replacement scales, all college and university teachers were sanctioned the Fifth Pay commission scales, with effect from January 1, 1996.

The Government in a subsequent Cabinet decision on January 11 1999, had also decided to implement the pay scales as recommended to the government employees and to non-teaching staff of aided colleges, according to official information.
