KHARAR, July 9: Three lecturers of Roopnagar Government Polytechnic for Women were killed and five persons were injured, two of them seriously, when their Maruti car collided head-on with a jeep on Kharar-Roopnagar highway near, Bhagomajra village, near here today.The deceased have been identified as Amandeep Kaur (29), Ravinder Kaur (25) and Parvesh Kumar (30), all residents of S. A. S. Nagar.
According to police sources, the accident took place at about 8.50 a.m. when the speeding jeep (HR-28-1519), on its way from Roopnagar towards Kharar, collided with a car (PB-02-E-4545) coming from the opposite direction.
While Amandeep Kaur and Arvinder Kaur died on the spot, six injured persons were immediately rushed to Kurali Civil Hospital. The three seriously injured lecturers were referred to PGI, Chandigarh, in a critical condition, where Parvesh Kumar was declared brought dead. The police have registered a case against the jeep driver, who is reported to be absconding, and impounded the vehicles involved in the accident.
