22 KMC officials in limbo
Kolhapur: State Government directives setting aside appointment of Kolhapur Municipal Transport (KMT) additional transport manager on the grounds of ``inadequate'' educational qualifications, has left in lurch as many as 22 Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) officers enjoying senior positions on ad hoc basis.
The State Urban Development department recently had directed the municipal corporation to relieve Panditrao Chavan of his additional charge. Chavan was entrusted with the KMT assignment in 1991, stating that his experience would benefit the transport undertaking more, despite Chavan not fulfilling the predetermined educational qualifications for the post of an additional transport manager. KMC general body later passed at least five resolutions to this effect.
The issue was raised by the civic employees union which was pressing for the KMC adhering to the Urban Development department directives on promotions to civic men and bestowing the officials with additional responsibilities.
According to the union seniors there are at least eleven officials in the civic administration who have been enjoying higher positions, besides an equal number of engineers from the civic engineering wing.
Ad hoc appointments have adversely affected the civic working, the union has charged.
