Successive win for Heroes, Shastri

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, July 9: New Delhi Heroes and Shastri F.C. registered their second successive victories in Group-I of the Delhi Soccer Association-SAIL Senior Division Football League Championship at Ambedkar Stadium here today.

Shastri beat Garhwal Heroes 3-2 in amatch of fluctuating fortunes. Star-studded Shastri Club took the lead in the ninth minute through medio Gyano Ranjan who headed home off a pass from Bhupender Thakur. Down by a goal, Garhwal Heroes took advantage of the defence lapse by Shastri defenders Hisham Ali and Mohd. Arif while tackling Garhwal Heroes' forward Naveen Malik move whose fine grounder in the 70th minute restored parity.

Garhwal Heroes again surged ahead (2-1) in the 49th minute when on a corner kick taken by Navin Malik, medio Budhiraj headed home thus surprising Shastri defenders. Thereafter, Shastri Club effected two substitutions -- Vimal Thapa coming in place of Michael Ponagogo and Ravinder replacing mid-fielder Mahipal -- and that changed the complexion of the game as two good moves initiated from mid-field saw Bhupinder Thakur strike two quick goals in the 57th and 58th minute give his side a 3-2 win. Shastri have collected six points from two matches while Garhwal Heroes drew blank from two matches.

In the same group, New Delhi Heroes rode on a brace by striker Vikram Bhandari to beat Hans Club 2-0 after levelling goalless at lemon break. N.D Heroes have six points from two matches while Hans Club are yet to open their account, having lost both their matches.
