Barwala residents block traffic

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PANCHKULA, JULY 11: The Barwala-Panchkula road remained blocked for almost two hours yesterday afternoon. The blockade started at around 11 a.m. when about 500 villagers came out on the main road shouting slogans against Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal and HVPN. The protest was headed by BJP leader, Pramod, CPM leaders Mehar Chand and Bau Singh. INLD leader, Rabinder Bator, was also present on the spot. On receiving information about the blockade, City Magistrate M.S. Yadav rushed to the spot and ensured the agitating villagers that their demand will be met by July 15. DSP Jagprakash Dahiya also reached the spot to avoid any untoward incident. XEN and SDO of the HVPN were also present. Traffic was resumed after the villagers dispersed after assurances by the City Magistrate that the village will be supplied 24 hour power supply from the July 15.

Markfed staff flay decision
CHANDIGARH:
Markfed Employees Union president Ranjit Goyal has criticised the management's decision to give a loan of Rs 20 crore to the Punjab Government for paying salaries to its staff.

Goyal alleged that Markfed had recently borrowed a sum of Rs 50 crore from Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) on interest. The Punjab Government had agreed to pay an interest of 14 per cent to Markfed. This showed that the state government had become almost bankrupt, forcing it to beg for loans from boards and corporations to pay salaries to the staff, Goyal charged.
