No LTTE activity in Myanmar, Colombo told

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
COLOMBO, JULY 17: Sri Lanka on Thursday raised its concerns about LTTE activities in Myanmar to its foreign minister U Win Aung who is here on an official visit but the minister denied his country was being used by the Tamil separatist group.

Lanka is concerned that the LTTE deals in arms and narcotics with the mafia controlling the lawless jungles on the Thai-Myanmar border, and that the Myanmar coast provides a number of convenient parking spots for its ships. However, at a press conference today, U Win denied the LTTE was using Myanmar. ``We have no information about this matter. The weapons for LTTE are not coming from our country. There are other countries in the region from where they could be supplied,'' he said.

He said Myanmar, with its various armed groups, was also at the receiving end of arms supplies from the other countries in the region and was trying to tackle the problem. U Win said Sri Lanka's concerns were brought to his notice during his meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister LaxmanKiriella, but that there was little Myanmar could do as there was ``no LTTE on Myanmar soil''.
