Calcutta, July 17: All the six candidates including AICC general secretary Pranab Mukherjee and former Army Chief Gen Shankar Roychowdhury were today elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from West Bengal.
Secretary of the state assembly N Khan, who is also the returning officer of the RS poll, told reporters that the six candidates were declared elected unopposed on the last date of withdrawal today.
This was the fourth time that Mukherjee was elected to the upper house from the state. Earlier he won in 1969, 1975 and 1993. In 1981, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat.
