Four share the lead with all-win records

MUMBAI, JULY 17: Mugdha Variyar (Gokuldham School, Goregaon), Yashodhan Gogte (Bombay Scottish), Ninant Pednekar and Anil Arora (Central Excise) are jointly leading with an all-win record at the end of the Group A fourth-round of the Entrant's Division chess tournament, organised by the Bombay Chess Association, at the Zandu Pharmaceutical Works Canteen, Sayani Road, yesterday.

Variyar, an eighth Standard student, Yashodham, a seventh Standard student, Pednekar and Arora outwitted Milind Ketkar (Pune Vidya Bhavan), Harsh Ambardekar, Arun Subramaniam, both of Pendharkar College and Sachin Sale (Chinai College), respectively.

Kaushik Shahukar, Rohit Kulkarni and Niraj Dube who defeated Dayanand Naik, Yogesh Deshpande and second seed Aditya Bhatt, respectively, are jointly on the second spot with 3.5 points apiece.

The youngest Group A player, six-year-old Karan Ajinkya (second Standard, Yashodham School) has won three games.

Sosa, Ambekar excel

Unseeded players Dilip Sosa and Sandeep Ambekar stunned Internationals Sanjay Nagaonkar and Arun Kedar, respectively, in the men's singles fifth-round of the Kshatriya Union Club open district ranking carrom tournament, sponsored by Philips India, Colgate Palmolive, Indian Oil, LIC, State Bank, Punjab National Bank and Abhyudaya Bank, at the Vanmali Hall, Dadar (W), today.
