Bajaj Auto set to introduce six new motorcycles

PUNE, JULY 18: Bajaj Auto Limited is introducing six new motorcycles next year, three each in the 100 cc to 25 cc, 125 cc to 250 cc range. The company has also entrusted its collaborator Kawasaki with the responsibility of quality assurance, process development and vendor selection for motorcycles. Taking the new range into account, the company is expanding its motorcycle capacity at Aurangabad to 0.5 million units per annum.Chairman and managing director Rahul Bajaj who addressed the 54th annual general meeting revealed that the company will change its three wheeler production from two stroke to four stroke and towards this end four stroke front engine and rear engine three wheelers will be introduced in September 1999 and November 1999 respectively. An ultra low emission four stroke three wheeler fuelled by CNG is under development. Production during the first three months of the financial year 1999-2000 was 332,974 two and three wheelers as against 316,684 two and three wheelers during the corresponding period in the previous year.The total sales and other income dipped to Rs. 876 crore as against Rs. 881.1 crore during the first quarter of 1998-99, a reduction of half per cent. Profit after tax was at Rs. 111 crore as against Rs. 120.4 crore during the corresponding three months in 1998-99. After considering the tax refund and expenses for earlier years, the net profits is Rs. 133.4 crore as against Rs. 119.2 crore during the corresponding three months of 1998-99.
