Mahayagya for the well being of jawans

PANCHKULA, JULY 18: A Gayatri Mahayagya was held here today for the victory and well being of jawans fighting in the Kargil sector. Held at the DC Model School in Sector 7, the yagya had been planned after a meeting of prominent citizens and representatives of various NGO's and institutions of Panchkula on July 10.

The havan was performed by 11 priests from Shantikunj Hardwar who have also donated Rs 21 lakh towards the National Defence Fund. There were 108 havan kunds and the residents of the township in batches of 1,100 each offered ahuti in these kunds from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Lt Gen J.L. Malhotra (retd) was also present among many ex-personnel of the Army and freedom fighters on the occasion. Someinjured soldiers from the Command Hospital were also brought to the venue to offer ahuti.

Among the NGO's and institutions who took active part in the yagya include Gayatri Parivar, Brahman Sabha, Unnat Bharat Vikas Parishad, DC Model School, Rotary and Lions Clubs, House Owners Association of Sector 17, Bal Sadan, Bal Niketan, Saket, Balmiki Sabha, Guru Ravi Dass Sabha and PSIEC Officers and Staff Welfare Association.
