PTF welcomes probe against Puar others

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PATIALA, JULY 18: The Progressive Teachers' Front has appreciated the government's decision to initiate action on the vigilance report regarding charges of corruption and irregularities in matters of appointment, admissions, migrations etc, against J.S. Puar, former vice-chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala.

In a statement here today, Gurdip Singh, convener of the Front, said the cases investigated by the vigilance Department were only the tip of the iceberg. He said the PTF was of the considered opinion that if a thorough inquiry was conducted into the grant of affiliations to the various institutions, increasing their seats in professional courses, granting admissions and migration to students, the conduct of examinations and cases of re-evaluation in them, framing of syllabi of many of these professional courses without proper approval of the university bodies and the various councils in utter violation of statutes and ordinances, astonishing facts would come to light and be an eye opener for one and all.

The PTF leader requested Dr Ahluwalia, the present Vice-Chancellor of the University, to immediately suspend the Registrar, Ranbir Singh Sarao, whose name had also appeared in the FIR, since he was the custodian of all the above mentioned records and could tamper with them.

The PTF has also appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to institute internal probes against these individuals in cases pertaining to the matters listed above, which have not been covered by the vigilance Department.
